Recently, while out on the quest for San Francisco’s best hamburger, I stumbled upon one of the niftier street art installations I’ve seen. These were both on MUNI poles and over 10 ft. off the ground.
The only thing I have to add is, “Er, your buttocks are so square and small it barely reads as a moon.”

Sweet Cheeks, if you want to know the best burger joints in town — e-mail AG!
Having said that:
1. Burgermeister
2. Taylor’s Refresher — super in Napa during the off season.
3. In/Out Burger — though AG does not agree.
January 21st, 2007 at 11:59 pm
Sorry, AG. Don’t try and pretend you understand these matters. Napa and franchises? These places can’t hold a candle.
A true warrior would have jumped on it like a beast, before it went straight up to 99.99.
January 22nd, 2007 at 6:01 pm
Fulsome,
Being in Napa has nothing to do with the fact that the burgers are good. It was there way before the Mondavi crowd started showing up in their Hummer limos, so back off.
You can hate chains all you want. However, you can stare down the wrath of UC and PP on the In/Out Burger debate. AG is not holding your ponytails while they tear you limb to limb.
P.S. Is that dEn in the picture b/c it’s not you or Chuckwagon.
January 23rd, 2007 at 1:26 am
I can’t really defend In and Out or Taylor’s Refresher as the best burgers in the bay area. They’re just extremely good at being what they are - which is a high quality fast food burger made freshly and with good ingredients. The best burgers are usually found in seedy bars, obscenely upscale restaurants, or somebody’s grill. I am curious to hear what Fulsome thinks are the best he’s had in the bay area.
January 23rd, 2007 at 8:22 am
Damnit! I’ve been to In’n'Out twice. It used to be okay b/c people in the south had Krispy Kreme, the northeast had Dunkin Donuts, and the west got In ‘n Out. Fair bragging rights all around.
But Dunkin now sux, Kripsy Kreme is everywhere (with their one good donut and zero good coffees)… and In’n'Out refuses, REFUSES, to bring their perfect portioning of sauces to buns to New England.
it all makes me very hungry.
January 23rd, 2007 at 5:33 pm
It sucks, MDhatter. AG would ban it if it came to New England. It would join a very long list that includes the likes of Upper Crust, Fugakyu, Lucky Wah because it teh suczs, D’Angelo’s and Fenway Park.
January 23rd, 2007 at 7:24 pm
AG knows not of what she speaks.
fulsome knows not of Nation’s burgers, but Choss does and he declares it mighty and yet despairing at the same time.
I am off to download some pornogrpahy and sodomize my vast imagination.

In ‘n out! is BANNED!!! BANNED!

I took the Genius to Sliders. I don’t know what he thought of the burger.
Ultimately the hot donut at 12:30am was beyond good.
January 23rd, 2007 at 11:10 pm
I can still taste the gooey, chocolately goodness
January 24th, 2007 at 1:45 pm
I’m not sure I know Sliders, P-house. There is that place something like Dick’s in DC that is supposed to be decent.
January 24th, 2007 at 4:04 pm
Five Guys is good, but Rocklands is like Five Guys on the moon because it is that much better.
January 24th, 2007 at 11:39 pm
So far, reigning SF burger champ is the KK Cafe on Divisadero and Haight. It’s so delicious, it’s Midwestern. But Burgermeister is well-reputed, so I’m going to give them a shot tonight. I’ll report back shortly. In any event, Sliders is delicious and way better than In & Out, although for a chain, In & Out is amazing.

SF Burger Bulletin, in Brief:
All right already with the alliteration… just joking.
The Case for Burgermeister:
Snappy, friendly service. A vast array of condiments, including the original “Cholula” hot sauce. Organic ingredients (including Niman Ranch Beef). “Prettiest” burger… it looks delicious.
The Case Against:
Expensive. A bacon cheeseburger will run you $10 with tax. Fixins were on the wilted side, ditto the side salad. Burger itself was dry, grainy. This might explain their fascination with condiments.
KK Cafe is still king. Sliders runner up. Honestly, I’d rather pay $6 for two animal style burgers at In & Out than blow $10 on some yuppie horseshit burger at Burgermeister. Damn this organic stuff… burgers aren’t supposed to be good for you.
January 26th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
Oh and by the way, Nation’s will make you sick everytime. And it’s not simply because the junkies that work there put their fingers in the mayonnaise, and they put that mayonnaise in everything from their burgers to their shakes to their key lime pie, which is deadly. Nor is it just because their burgers so greasy that human stomachs cannot handle them without producing copious amounts of gas. Or even JUST because Nations is from Oakland.
What makes you sick at Nations is a combination of all three of the above factors (although mainly junkie fingernaise and Oakland), but that to eat at Nation’s one must certainly be intoxicated. So not only do you eat, you mix that crap with alcohol, and eat way too much, way too fast. Then the junkies dip their fingers in the mayonnaise and you eat it and die.
January 26th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
I have never gotten sick from Nation’s and I always puke from a Big Mac. Always. Like fucking clockwork, I can time it.

All this talk about burgers makes me think of Dotty’s in Madison. That place has the best freakin’ burgers. And you can enjoy them with a Spotted Cow.
That’s tough to beat.
January 27th, 2007 at 7:11 am
mmm… spotted cow. Sadly, there’s no New Glarus or Bell’s in Chicago since this fall (distributor catfight). I haven’t had Dotty’s, but The Webber Grill in Chicago has some tasty, but expensive, burgers.

Joe’s Cable Car way down Mission St. in the Excelsior district. Not a trendy neighborhood but the place is combined with its own butcher shop. They get the meat in fresh daily and grind it on the premises.
February 1st, 2007 at 3:16 pm
That sounds tempting. I don’t know when I am going back out to SF, but I won’t have flowers in my hair, I will have burgers on my brain.
Also, if I see any of these signs anywhere, I am stealing them all.
