Hey, That Looks Alright

I’m playing around with Google Chrome a bit at the moment (I have an intense desire for Google to track EVERY WEB PAGE I’VE EVER BEEN TO EVER).  And apparently it loads/looks fine on here.

If anyone hates their privacy so much as to use this browser consistently please feel free to let me know if you have any problems.

Coaxing Fulsome Back?

As most everyone has noticed Fulsome has (I can only assume from his lack of presence) reclused himself to some sort of cave where robots and nanomachines keep him in a state where he has free time in only 15 second intervals.

Unfortunately, this has led to him not ever posting … ever.

So in an attempt to at least to get the occasional update, I’m thinking we’re going to get him involved in some microblogging.  The plan right now is to get him setup with a Twitter account and then modify the little quote above to be ‘Dispatches from Fulsome’ or some such nonsense.  Then Fulsome will be able to update with the observations he’s so well known for.

I know it’s not ideal as I don’t think pictures of burritos will fit in the space except if they’re very tiny[Ed. note, the burrito or the picture ... your choice].  Still, we’ve got to try anything to get him to update something.  I mean, it’s like he doesn’t even know we exist anymore.

I’ll be honest and say that I doubt he’s going to actually update it very much.  Don’t worry though, I’ve already thought of that though.  The plan is that since I’ll create the Twitter account he’s going to be using, I can just make up crap and pretend it’s from him.  Everyone’s happy!

Anyway, that’s it for now.  I’ve got to head back and play some more Bionic Commando: Rearmed (or keep working on getting the latest version of the software set for release … I hate configuring package installers!).

Sorry About the Noise

I’m in the process of upgrading the template to handle widgets and as such, there may be some strange sounds coming out of the blog.  Don’t worry, Chuckles probably isn’t going to be posting those things he said he would anyway.

Update: The ‘Nerds’ box is currently rendering kind of weird in IE so I will be getting to that eventually.  If you notice any other weirdness, let me know.

Otherwise, enjoy the newly added recent comments functionality or giant number of indiscriminately labeled and duplicated links.

Update X2: I think it’s fixed.  The spacing is a little different between IE and Firefox still but I don’t know that I care enough to keep working on it.

Update X3:  Took care of some roving ‘Â’ characters that were causing problems.

New Features

Woo, this weekend I spent about 15 minutes not watching TV and made a few enhancements to the blog. I’ve now added categories that display at the bottom. I’m in the process of going through my old posts and adding categories to them. I think I’m done through Feb. 2006. Only one more year to go.

If fulsome or Chuckles ever feel like doing that then eventually we’ll get everything nice and organized.

I’ve also added a search bar on the right. It seems to work ok. At the moment the site template doesn’t really look any different when viewing monthly archives, search results, or even the front page and that’s something I will work on at some point.

I also went through and cleaned up a number of the comments that got imported poorly (anyone who put their name and URL but not using a blogger account). If you notice any other problems though, let me know.

Goodbye Cruel Blogger!

Hey, I’m cross posting this for now between the new site and the old site because things are still kind of in development as far as getting everything working.

Basically though, we’re in the process of moving from the old wellroundednerds.blogspot.com site to the wellroundednerds.com site. A lot of this is due to Blogger upgrade and just being sick of having everything on someone else’s server.

The import from Blogger to this was kind of a pain. Apparently new blogger isn’t going to be supported in the WordPress importer until 2.2 but they already have it online at WordPress.com. So to get around this, I had to make a temporary blog and 3 temporary users and import to WordPress.com. Then I had to export from WordPress.com and import it into WellRoundedNerds.com.

In the end it seems to have worked out though. There are some new features I may be able to add soon (like getting categories working or a search bar) so we’ll have to see. All in all I’m impressed by how easy the whole thing was though.
