Just as I was starting to get used to those sexy Sacajawea $1 coins the US government ups and decides that what we really need are $1 coins with pictures of a crazy looking George Washington on them (see picture at right).
Now, I’m all for things with stuff on them whether their coins or cans of soda or billboards. But one has to wonder what the point of these $1 coins are if they refuse to remove the $1 bill? I mean, I hate cash money as much as the next guy but I hate coins even more.
The truth is though that I want this effort to be successful because it’ll save the US government some money (and hopefully via some eventual trickle down, us). Plus, maybe if we get rid of paper $1 bills, the $2 bill will get the attention it so rightly deserves.
[UPDATE]
I was looking for more articles about these wonderful new coins (that perhaps we’ll see advertised on TV like that sweet WTC one) when I came across this article about them. Perhaps most interesting though was that the article was written by B. Brandon Barker the author of Operation Emu. Judging by mdhatter’s comment, I am starting to think this is not a coincidence.
